We are looking to recruit an experienced Early Years practitioner to join an exciting project, ‘TALK Halton’, which has arisen from a successful bid to the Department for Education.

The aims of the project are:

  • to effect significant culture change across all partners in the local authority area with the objective of improving early language and communication outcomes for all children in Halton;
  • to improve practitioner knowledge and understanding in effectively identifying children’s early communication and language needs; to upskill the workforce in how to address these; and to ensure that fewer children need to progress to costly specialist provision;
  • to improve Communication, Language and Literacy outcomes, thereby having a positive impact on outcomes in other areas of learning.

To help achieve these outcomes, you will work collaboratively as part of a multi-agency team consisting of education and health professionals. You will work under the direction of the TALK Halton Project Lead and the TALK Halton Teacher.

You will:

  • work with practitioners in Early Years settings to develop a total communication approach;
  • participate in the WellComm Speech and Language Toolkit training;
  • support Early Years settings, including childminders, in the roll out of WellComm screening and help provide focused support, coaching and quality assurance;
  • support the delivery of whole workforce training around the development of children’s communication skills.

You will receive training in the WellComm Speech and Language Toolkit for Screening and Intervention in the Early Years.

Applicants are required to have:

  • a relevant Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Early Years or Childcare;
  • GCSE or equivalent in English at grades A-C;
  • experience of working with children in an Early Years setting;
  • advanced understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS);
  • understanding of the principles of child development, learning styles and independent learning;
  • ability to promote a positive ethos and role model positive attributes;
  • ability to motivate colleagues and partners, ensuring effective communication and delivery of project activities;
  • ability to work in multiple settings;
  • experience of resources preparation and the effective use of ICT to support learning in the Early Years;
  • high expectations of all children; respect for their social, cultural, linguistic, religious and ethnic backgrounds; and commitment to raising their educational achievements;
  • ability to travel between Early Years settings in either Widnes or Runcorn.
